Make sure you comply with the GDPR / Data Protection Act and WEEE Regulations when disposing of old computers and IT equipment – contact us to see how we can help.
When disposing of your redundant or surplus IT equipment bear the following in mind to protect your reputation and your customer data:
- Security: insist on certified data erasure and destruction products
- Assurance: use a company with the assurance of external audits and full Indemnity Insurance
- Legal: only give your equipment to a company that is licenced to remove it
- Value: costs can be offset against the value of equipment
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25th May 2018. This is essentially an update to the Data Protection Act and all businesses storing and processing sensitive or personal data will have to comply with it, so that pretty much means all of us, and Data Protection has now got even more serious.
